Roots Reggae Day to celebrate reggae music with star-studded panel

On Wednesday, July 1, music communities around the world will come together to acknowledge International Reggae Day – a celebration of the reggae genre, culture and lifestyle which originated in Jamaica.

In the spirit of this momentous occasion, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Hector “Roots Percussionist” Lewis, will use his Instagram platform to connect with fans to bring to them the inaugural Roots Reggae Day.

The day-long event is a conversational series that will include exclusive talks with some of the top reggae artists in the global industry who will discuss the impact, joy and inspiration of reggae music on their respective careers, identities and artistry.

Some of the recording artists will include chart-topping recording artistes such as Lila Ike, Jaz Elise, Courtni, Shacia Päyne Marley, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal, Julian Marley and Chronixx.

Earmarked by Germany’s Riddim Magazine as an “Artist To Watch In 2020”, Roots Percussionist, who is the currently the percussionist and backup vocalist for the critically-acclaimed Chronixx and Zincfence Redemption, has expressed excitement for the opportunity to bring real conversations to real people in support of reggae music.

“It is an honour and a joy to bring the focus on Jamaica’s and the Caribbean’s contribution to the global music landscape. We have been a powerhouse for so long and our influence is seen everywhere,” he explains.

Roots, who is also the son of the late legendary reggae-turned-gospel songstress Barbara Jones, refers to reggae as “the royal music of Kings and Queens”, and is thrilled to host the lineup of his musical peers as a way to elevate the conversation surrounding the genre.

“Yeah man, I have worked with all of these artists in my career and they have always given me a space to create. They are all family to me and we all want the same thing – to see reggae culture and lifestyle evolve and grow as we celebrate the greatness that the culture has given birth to – paying homage to everyone from Toots and the Maytals to Marcia Griffiths, from Bob Marley to Etana,” says the popular percussionist, who will celebrate his 30th birthday this weekend on July 4.

This special Roots Reggae Day of celebrations for International Reggae Day will begin at 11 am ET/10 am Jamaica time on July 1 on the @roots_percussionist Instagram Page, and will extend into the evening with giveaways and other surprises.
